Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band is photographed at a studio on London’s Flood Street, using cardboard cutouts and wax figures to represent the Beatles’ heroes. The effigies featured include Edgar Allan Poe, Lenny Bruce, Vidal Sassoon, Laurel and Hardy, Bob Dylan, and Huntz Hall. 1967 – Pink Floyd debut on UK singles chart with Arnold Layne. 1968 – In London, David Bowie makes his debut with the Lindsay Kemp mime troupe in Pierrot in Turquoise. 1970 – Led Zeppelin walk off stage during a Pittsburgh gig and say they won’t play until the police stop intimidating the audience. They’re joined onstage by Ron Wood, The Jam’s Paul Weller, The Who’s Roger Daltrey and Manic Street Preachers’ James Dean Bradfield. 2004 – Guns N’ Roses pull out of the Rock in Rio – Lisbon festival following the sudden departure of guitarist Buckethead. 2006 – Led Zeppelin: A man is removed from a flight to London on suspicion of terrorism after a taxi driver reports he was listening to The Clash’s “London’s Burning” and Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” on his way to the airport. Harraj Mann is released without charge. 2012 – Jerry Lee Lewis ties the knot for the 7th time.

His wife gives birth to a son, Romeo Jon. 2005 – Neil Young was treated for a brain aneurysm at a hospital in New York. Doctors expected the 59 year old to make a full recovery. The aneurysm was discovered when Young’s vision became blurred after the induction ceremony for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month. 2007 – U2 singer Bono accepted an honorary knighthood at a ceremony in Dublin. Fellow band members The Edge and Adam Clayton joined the frontman’s wife and four children at the British ambassador David Reddaway’s official residence. 2011 – BlueBeat.com settles lawsuit over selling Beatles songs illegally.

The Alan Freed’s Big Beat Show also featured Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Frankie Lymon, The Diamonds, Billy Ford, Danny & The Juniors,The Chantels, Larry Williams, Screaming Jay Hawkins. 1964 – Madame Tussauds, London unveiled the wax works images of The Beatles, the first pop stars to be honoured. 1967 – Working on session for the new Beatles album Sgt Pepper at Abbey Road studios in London, John Lennon recorded his lead vocal for ‘Good Morning Good Morning’, and Paul McCartney added a lead guitar solo to the track 1974 – Blues artist Arthur ‘Big Boy’ Crudup died of a stroke at the age of 69. Even though Paul sang the original. 1982 – David Crosby was arrested after crashing his car on the San Diego Highway. Police also found cocaine and a pistol in the Crosby Stills & Nash stars car. When the police asked Crosby why he carried the gun, his reply was, “John Lennon.” 1992 – Over $100,000 (£58,800) worth of damage was caused at The Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, California, when Ozzy Osbourne invited the first two rows of the audience on stage. Several others took up the offer and the band was forced to exit the stage. 1992 –During a North American tour Pearl Jam appeared at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago with Smashing Pumpkins as the support act. 2000 – Former Led Zeppelin member Jimmy Page accepts “substantial” libel damages and a public apology at London’s high court over a magazine article that accuses him of contributing to the Death of former bandmate John Bonham. 2005 – After playing a warm-up date the night before at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, U2 kicked off their Vertigo tour at the iPay One Center in San Diego, California. 2006 – “loudQuietloud: A Film About the Pixies” premieres during the South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas.

The rocker returned to the road shortly afterward. 2004 – The Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office charge troubled ex-Hole leader Courtney Love with disorderly conduct. 2004 – Jack White of the White Stripes pleads guilty to simple assault and battery and is sentenced to probation and anger management therapy. White beat up the lead singer of the Von Bondies at Detroit’s Magic Stick club in December 2003. 2009 – A blue plaque in honour of The Who drummer Keith Moon was unveiled on the site of the Marquee Club in Soho, London, where in 1964 the band played the first of 29 gigs there. 1948 – Chris Squire (Yes) is born. 1950 – Billy Gibbons of ‘ZZ Top’ is born! 1963 – Jason Newstead (Bassist for Metallica) is Born. 1966 – John Lennon, in an interview in the London Evening Standard, creates international controversy with his remark that the Beatles “are probably bigger than Jesus right now.” 1970 – In Tampa, Fla., Janis Joplin is fined $200 for using obscene language during a November 1969 concert there. 1977 – The Rolling Stones played the first of two nights at the El Mocambo a small club in Toronto, Canada. 1982 – Rolling Stone announces that Moon Unit Zappa and Dweezil Zappa have united to form Fred Zeppelin. Their first single, they say, will be called “My Mother Is a Space Cadet.” 1986 – The Band’s pianist, Richard Manuel, commits suicide by hanging himself. 2003 – At a show in Jacksonville, Fla., Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band play Hank Ballard’s “Let’s Go, Let’s Go, Let’s Go,” in honor of the songwriter, who died on March 2. 2011 -Courtney Love settle her lawsuit with Dawn Simorangkir, fashion designer, who claimed that Love defamed her in a series of messages on Twitter last year.

1966 – Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay formed Buffalo Springfield in Los Angeles. 1967 – Jeff Beck Group, featuring Ron Wood and Aynsley Dunbar, makes its stage debut in London (at Finsbury Park Astoria). 1967 – After a promoter refuses to pay the Animals an advance for their concert in Ottawa, the band decides not to play. The audience riots and causes $5,000 in damages. 1968 – The Grateful Dead celebrate their move from Haight-Ashbury to Marin County with a special farewell concert in San Francisco. 1969 – Led Zeppelin recorded their first BBC Radio 1 ‘Top Gear’ session during the afternoon at the Playhouse Theatre in London, England. 1973 – Slade: Cum on Feel the Noize UK 45 No. 1 Chart Topper. 1978 – Van Halen opens its first tour at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. The group’s contract specifies that M&Ms be provided to the group during the stint with the brown candies removed. 1983 – A member of Hell’s Angels testifies to a Senate judiciary panel. He says the infamous motorcycle gang’s California chapter has had a murder contract out on Mick Jagger for the past 14 years and has tried to kill him twice. 1986 – Metallica released their highly influential album, Master of Puppets, considered by many in the metal community to be the best metal album of all time. 1994 – The Smashing Pumpkins were banned from appearing on BBC TV’s ‘Top Of The Pops’, due to the content of the songs lyrics. The bands single ‘Disarm’ was this weeks highest new entry. 1999 – US music professor Peter Jeffrey went to court to sue The Smashing Pumpkins, their promoters and a company who make ear plugs after claiming his hearing was damaged at a concert in Connecticut. 2003 – Ray Jackson who found fame with Lindisfarne took out legal action against Rod Stewart over his 1970s hit song ‘Maggie May.’ Jackson claimed he came up with the worldwide hit’s classic mandolin melody and claimed he may have lost at least £1m because he was not credited for the track’s distinctive “hook.” 2009 – To celebrate the release of U2’s twelfth studio album and their appearance every night for a week on The Late Show with David Letterman, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg temporarily renamed part of 53rd street in Midtown Manhattan U2 Way. 2012 – Guitarist extraordinaire, Ronnie Montrose passed away

1942 – Lou Reed (Louis Firbank) is born in Freeport, N.Y. 1947 – Keyboardist Josef Chirowski, who has played with Alice Cooper and Peter Gabriel, is born in Germany. 1949 – Rory Gallagher is born in Ballyshannon. 1956 – Mark Evans (AC/DC) is born. 1962 – Jon Bon Jovi (Bon Jovi) is born. 1964 – Beatles begin work on their first movie Hard Day’s Night in London, with director Richard Lester. 1964 – George Harrison meets his (and Eric Clapton’s) future spouse Pattie Boyd. 1968 – Blue Cheer give birth to heavy metal when their interpretation of “Summertime Blues” is released. The single goes to No. 14. 1975 – Linda McCartney is arrested on charges of marijuana possession after Los Angeles police pull the McCartneys over for allegedly running a red light and smell a familiar musk emerging from their Lincoln Continental. It is his first completely solo outing in more than 25 years. 1999 – The Las Vegas House of Blues opens with a performance by Bob Dylan. U2’s Bono joins him to sing “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.” 2007 – Jimi Hendrix was crowned the ‘wildest guitar hero’ of all-time in a poll of music fans for Classic Rock magazine. 2008 – Canadian guitarist, singer, Jeff Healey, died of cancer. 2010 – At a Ozzy Osbourne book signing at a Florida Barnes & Noble turned dramatic when the bomb squad was called in, due to a fan with some marijuana and homemade fireworks.
