1941 – Tom Fogerty, rhythm guitarist with Creedence Clearwater Revival, and brother of John Fogerty, is born in Berkeley, Calif. 1948 – REO Speedwagon drummer Alan Gratzer is born in Syracuse, N.Y. 1948 - Joe Bouchard-bassist for Blue Oyster Cult is born 1952 – Dennis Stratton, who played guitar with Iron Maiden on their first album, is born in London. 1961 – Brian Epstein goes to the Cavern in Liverpool to get a glimpse of the Beatles. 1966 –In 1969, using “clues” found in Beatles songs and album covers, a Detroit disc jockey and his radio audience determined that Paul McCartney died on this day in a car accident. 1966 – John Lennon attends a private viewing of an exhibition by Yoko Ono at London’s Indica Gallery and meets the New York artist for the first time. She professes to have never heard of him. 1967 – The first issue of Rolling Stone is published with John Lennon on the cover. He is on the cover 3 times within the next year. 1967 – Roger McGuinn kicks out David Crosby from the Byrds. Gene Clark replaces him. Crosby would later go on to form Crosby, Stills & Nash. 1968 – Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant marries his wife, Maureen. The couple have their reception at Led Zeppelin’s gig in London’s Roundhouse, where they appear on the bill with the Deviants, Tyres, and John Lee Hooker. 1974: Bachman-Turner Overdrive went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart for the only time with “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” which spent one week on top of the chart. 1996 – Bob Dylan allows his song “The Times They Are A-Changin’” to be used in an advertisement for the Bank of Montreal. 1998 – Pete Townshend performs his first solo concert in England in 12 years. 1999 – The Recording Industry Association of America declares the Eagles’ Greatest Hits 1971-1975 the best-selling album of the century. 2009 – Bon Jovi has added a performance at the 20th anniversary celebration for the fall of the Berlin Wall in Germany to what’s already a jammed promotional schedule for its new album, “The Circle.” The 2010 – The FBI launches an investigation into online protest affecting Gene Simmons’ website. 2010 – Slash fans are facing a delay before the rocker’s new video with Fergie is released – because the raunchy clip needs to be censored.
