Uncle Meat doesn’t see the light of day until 1987, while a proposed Japanese monster movie never comes to fruition. 1970 – The Who perform at Leeds University in England and record it for the official bootleg Live at Leeds. 1972 – Born on this day, Rob Thomas, Matchbox 20. 1972 – John Lennon and Yoko Ono begin their week-long stint as guest hosts on The Mike Douglas Show. 1973 – David Bowie collapses from what his promoter calls “total exhaustion” following a Valentine’s Day show at Radio City Music Hall. 1974 – Bob Dylan and the Band wrap up their current tour at the Los Angeles Forum. Audience member Ringo Starr says it’s “the best concert I’ve ever been to.” 1978 – Dire Straits begins recording its first album in London. 1980 – Lou Reed married Sylvia Morales at a ceremony in his New York apartment. 1980 – Over in England, Thin Lizzy frontman Phil Lynott marries Caroline Crowther, the daughter of a game-show host. 1981 – Singer Billy Idol leaves his band Generation X to pursue a solo career. 1984 – Elton John marries Renate Blauel. Wayne’s World was a recurring sketch from the NBC television series Saturday Night Live. 1992 – Jon Farriss from INXS married actress Leslie Bega. 1994 – Jerry Garcia marries Deborah Koons. 1998 – Marilyn Manson begins a brief book signing tour on Valentine’s Day at Tower Records in New York in support of his autobiography “It’s A Long Hard Road Out of Hell.” 1999 – Lenny Kravitz scored his first UK No.1 single with ‘Fly Away.’ 1999 – Doug Weston, who operated L.A. club the Troubadour, dies in a local hospital after a bout of pneumonia.
