1942 – Leon Russell is born in Lawton, Okla. 1946 – Born on this day, Kurt Winter, Guess Who, 1952 – Born on this day, Leon Wilkeson, bass, Lynyrd Skynyrd, 1953 – Born on this day, David Robinson, The Cars, 1964 – Beatles: Can’t Buy Me Love UK 45 is no. 1 chart topper. 1965 – The Who made their first radio appearance on the UK BBC’s ‘Joe Loss Pop Show.’ 1967 – The Beatles finish recording the album “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” The album tops Chart Toppers’s pop album chart for 15 weeks, longer than any Beatles album. 1967 – Steve Winwood leaves the Spencer Davis Group to form his own band, Traffic. 1967 – 154 Austrian Rolling Stones fans were arrested when a riot broke out at a 14,000-seated Town Hall gig; a smoke bomb was thrown on the stage. 1967 – Born on this day, Greg Camp, Smash Mouth, 1968 – Jimi Hendrix appeared at the Paul Suave Arena, Montreal, Canada. 1969 – Bruce Springsteen’s new group Child made their live debut at the Pandemonium Club in Wanamassa, New Jersey. 1970 – Janis Joplin decides to get a tattoo on her wrist and another over her heart reading “One for the Boys.” 1970 – The London Magistrate’s Court is in session to determine whether any of John Lennon’s erotic lithographs are in fact indecent. 1971 – Janis Joplin was at No.1 on the US album charts with ‘Pearl.’ 1977 – Fleetwood Mac went to No.1 on the US album chart with ‘Rumours.’ Also on this day Fleetwood Mac kicked off a 7-date UK tour at the Odeon, Birmingham, 1983 – U2’s War hits US LP chart 1983 – Pink Floyd scored their third UK No.1 album with ‘The Final Cut.’ 1987 – U2 kicked off their 29-date North American Joshua Tree tour at Arizona State Activity Centre. 1990 – Eric Clapton was fined £300 with £10 costs by Walton-on- Thames Magistrates court, after being booked for speeding at 105mph 1990 – Nirvana went into Smart Studios in Madison, Wisconsin and started work on demo versions of ‘In Bloom’, ‘Dive’, ‘Lithium’, ‘Pay To Play’, ‘Imodium’, ‘Sappy’ and ‘Polly’ with Butch Vig producing. 1993 – A London newspaper reports that Rolling Stone bassist Bill Wyman’s son is engaged to Patsy Smith. The 46-year-old Smith is the mother of Wyman’s ex-wife Mandy. 1998 – Metallica kicked off their 61-date ‘Poor Re-Touring Me Tour’ at the Newcastle Entertainment Centre in Newcastle, Australia. 2004 – Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne tell Larry King that their daughter Kelly has entered rehab to treat an addiction to painkillers. 2006 – Singer Bryan Adams is inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. 2010 Former Motley Crue singer John Corabi has questioned the authenticity of Crue bassist Nikki Sixx’s memoir, “The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star”.
