1935 - Peter Grant-manager for Led Zeppelin born in London this day 1942 - Allan Clarke-singer for The Hollies born 1962 – The Beatles performed at the Cavern Club in Liverpool as part of a special night presented by the Beatles’ fan club. 1966 – Born on this day, Mike McCready, guitar, Pearl Jam. 1971 – Rolling Stones leave England and become tax-exiles. 1981 – Bob “The Bear” Hite of Canned Heat dies of a heart attack in Venice, Calif. at the age of 36. 1994 – Kurt Cobain committed suicide in his home in Seattle, Washington. 1998 – Cozy Powell, a British rock drummer who played with Rainbow , ELP and Black Sabbath, dies in a car crash near Bristol. 2001 – David Bowie launches an online radio station, “BowieRadio,” via his BowieNet Web community. 2002 – Layne Staley dies of a drug overdose, eight years to the day after Kurt Cobain committed suicide. The Alice in Chains singer’s body is not found until several days later. 2002 – R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck walks free from court after a London jury acquits him of going on a drunken rampage on a trans-Atlantic flight a year before. 2003 – Carlos Santana attacks Bush and Saddam Hussein at a concert in Melbourne, Australia, announcing, “We are the architects of the world and our agenda is different to Saddam Hussein and George Bush. Dignity and grace are our weapons – unity, salvation and elegance.” 2003 – Limp Bizkit announce they’re change their name to the more compact “limpbizkit.” 2003 – Paul McCartney kicked off the UK leg of his ‘Back In The World Tour’ at Hallam FM Arena a year after it began in America. The set included 22 Beatles songs. 2004 – An L.A. police officer testifies that Courtney Love appeared intoxicated and told him she had taken “hillbilly heroin,” or Oxycontin, the night she was arrested for drugs possession. The ex-Hole singer denies the charges. 2004 – Nirvana fans hold a vigil in Seattle’s Viretta Park on the 10th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death. 2005 – Aberdeen, Wash., adds the legend “Come As You Are” to their “Welcome to Aberdeen” sign on the 11th anniversary of Kurt Cobain’s death. 2010 – Slash says ‘Chinese Democracy’ was ‘The perfect Axl record’ 2010 – Guns N’ Roses rocker Axl Rose was left red-faced during a recent concert in Bogota, Colombia – after he slipped and fell onstage during the band’s show.
