1949 - Herman Rarebell-drummer for Scorpions is born
1952 – Bill Haley married his pregnant girlfriend just four days after he divorced his first wife.
1963 – According to today’s English newspapers, a priest requests the Beatles record a Christmas song. Manager Brian Epstein also issues a press release requesting fans not throw anything at the stage during the Beatles’ concerts.
1966 – Pink Floyd play a “philadelic” music event at England’s Hornsey College of Art.
1967 – Pink Floyd release their third single, “Apples and Oranges,” in England.
1970 – Jerry Lee Lewis divorces his wife (and cousin) Myra Brown. Brown married the Killer 13 years ago – when she was only 14. She later says the couple spent only three nights alone during their years together.
1972 – Danny Whitten, a guitarist and songwriter with the rock band Crazy Horse, dies of a heroin overdose.
1975 – Bruce Springsteen’s first gigs in London are promoted with posters reading, “Finally the world is ready for Bruce Springsteen.”
1984 – Guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan wins Entertainer of the Year and Blues Instrumentalist of the Year at the W.C. Handy National Blues Awards.
1987 – Performing a second night in Los Angeles, U2 decide to support themselves as a fictional country group called the Dalton Brothers.
1990 – At a rock memorabilia auction, Paul McCartney’s birth certificate sells for $18,000.
1990 – Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones marries model-actress Jerry Hall in Bali, Indonesia.
1992 – Black Sabbath were honoured with a star at the Rock Walk in Hollywood.
1993 – Nirvana recorded their MTV unplugged special at Sony Studios, New York.
1997 – An AC/DC five-CD boxed set, “Bonfire,” is released in the U.S. The set is intended as an honour to the band’s original singer Bon Scott.
2003 – John Lennon’s handwritten lyrics to the Beatles’ “Nowhere Man” sell for over $300,000 at a New York auction.
2008 – Velvet Revolver are dropped by record label RCA.
